David Mamet to Blog on Huffington Post as November's President Smith

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet will have a featured blog on the popular Huffington Post website, portraying President Charles H.P. Smith, the leading character in his political comedy November. Through this new avenue, "President Smith" will offer his incisive commentary on various social issues, such as same-sex relationships, national security, foreign policy and legalized prostitution and drug use.

In a post dated April 21, Mamet/Smith begins by saying, "My opponents are yapping at my heels. I have been asked if I wish them ill. No, I do not wish them ill. If I wished them ill I would withdraw from the race. For this job, finally, is an unmitigated pain in the ass." Under his own byline, Mamet recently made headlines for an essay in The Village Voice titled "Why I Am No Longer a 'Brain-Dead Liberal.'"

November, which is playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, is directed by Joe Mantello and stars two-time Tony Award-winner Nathan Lane as President Smith, three-time Emmy Award-winner Laurie Metcalf as presidential aide Clarice Bernstein and Dylan Baker as presidential advisor Archer Brown.
